Tomislav Ivančić

OPENING TALK



Tomislav Ivančić is an expert and adviser on trade, development, and risk in global supply chains. He works with the Investment Centre of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), advising governments, companies, and other stakeholders on market opportunities, investment strategy, and development risk. In addition to his work with FAO, he advises the World Bank on global supply chains and sustainable agricultural investment, works with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on the development of a programme on responsible commodity sourcing in Guatemala, and acts as an expert to the International Labour Organization (ILO) SECTOR Department (agriculture and building materials) on supply chain risk.

Previously, he advised multinational companies across Europe, North America, and Latin America on human rights due diligence and supply chain risk at Shift in London. He also led the European Union’s portfolio on Global Supply Chains and Responsible Business Conduct at the European Commission in Brussels. Tomislav is a board member of Export Development Canada’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Advisory Board and an Associate Expert at the NOVA Knowledge Centre for Business, Human Rights and the Environment at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, focusing on due diligence, trade, and global supply chains.

He holds an MSc in Local Economic Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), an MA in International Relations and European Studies from Central European University (CEU), and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Economics from the University of Toronto. He is an alumnus of Harvard Business School’s Executive Education programme on Social Impact and Global Value Chains and is completing a PhD at the University of Lisbon, where his research focuses on responsible sourcing, trade governance, and environmental and social risk in developing economies. He is a lead author of several publications, including commentary on the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D), analysis of due diligence and agricultural cooperatives, and research on the economic impacts of sustainability regulation on producers and exporters in Argentina, Botswana, and Costa Rica.
